Sabah’s junior golfers make clean sweep

Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans made a clean sweep in the category A of the 2nd Leg SportExcel Malaysian Junior Golf Tour 2024, held at the Shan Shui Golf and Country Resort Tawau from May 23-25.

Ryan Lam Tse Ziang  (83, 86, 82) captured the boys’ title while the girls’ crown went to Jamie Tan (79, 81, 84).

In category B, another Sabahan Mohamad Danish Danial (79, 88, 80) took the boy’s title and the girls’ title was won by Sarawakian Bernice Hwang (86, 87, 92).

The best Blue Tee-Box winner was Sabah’s Dylan Zayden Darius (81, 77, 79) and Aarthi Ganesan (81, 77, 81) from Selangor took the best White Tee-Box.

Aarthi Ganesan was also awarded the WAGR Event Winners Impress as he registered the best scores among the Premier division with a total three-day score not exceeding 18 strokes over par for boys, and 24 strokes over par for girls.

Other winners in the three-day competition were junior circuit category A – Amirul Hishamudin (Boys) - Labuan (92, 96), Siew Tian Yi (Girls) – Penang (95, 91); category B – Ethan Chee Jian Hao (Boys) - Sabah (88, 85), Sarah Paulina Sylvester (Girls) - Sabah (119, 128); category C – Raja Muhammad Syakir (Boys) - Kuala Lumpur (85, 89), Yap Shu Yi (Girls) - Kuala Lumpur (95, 87); kiddies tour category D – Lee Ming Jun (Boys) - Negeri Sembilan (40, 38), Raissa Ahmad Zuhaili (Girls) - Selangor (39, 37); category E – Raiyan Mohd Amri (Boys) - Selangor (36, 32), Nishantika Vinayagan (Girls) - Negeri Sembilan (62, 59).

A total of 81 junior golfers from Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Labuan, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Penang took part in the tournament organised by SportExcel and its partner, Alpha Sports Academy.

SportExcel Malaysia’s executive director Sivanandan Chinnadurai said the tournament was held to provide a platform for juniors aged 7 to 18 to showcase their talent and also to foster a healthy competition.

“This tournament is more than just a competition.  It’s not only the dedication and sportsmanship displayed by our future stars, but the experience of playing on a very challenging course especially the greens,” he said.

Meanwhile, organising chairman and co-founder of Alpha Sports Academy Ali Ariffin thanked sponsor K2 for their support to ensure the success of the event.
