Beaufort folks want serious action on flash floods

BEAUFORT: Frequent flash floods faced by residents in Klias Baru, especially in Jalan Klias Tiga, here, need serious attention of the authorities.
Resident Ibrahim Salim said every time it rains heavily, the village gets flooded.

He blamed the poorly maintained drainage system that is overgrown with weeds preventing water from flowing out.
Residents had to frantically move their cars to higher grounds and save their property from being destroyed by the flood.
Ibrahim suggested action should be taken to maintain the ditches and that larger culverts built along Jalan Sungai Limbawang bypass to facilitate water flow during the rainy season.
“The culvert that was built is too small and cannot handle the excessive water flow, causing it to flood every time it rains heavily.

“Action needs to be taken by authorities because the floods are very troublesome for the residents who have to struggle to save their property.
“The authorities should act so that the living standards of the residents are better and more comfortable, not like what is happening today,” he said on Saturday.

Another obstacle in the waterways is a defunct lorry parked in the ditch in front of a workshop.
Ibrahim urged the District Office, Klias Community Development Leader Unit and the Public Works Department to take action against the owner of the workshop in removing the lorry.
