More falling trees cause havoc

KOTA BELUD: Motorists are advised to be caution when seeking shade underneath trees after a Nissan Vanette parked outside the community hall, here, was badly damaged by a falling tree on Thursday.
Luckily, no one was inside the van during the 2pm incident which wrecked the rear right side.

A new motorcycle parked behind it was also knocked over. The Fire and Rescue Department received a 3.23pm distress call and moved in to chop and clear the logs.
The tree is believed to have fallen due to loose soil following recent bouts of heavy rain. Last Tuesday in Tawau, a Proton Saga suffered the same fate when parked outside Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bahagia.
In KOTA MARUDU, a female student with disabilities was injured on her left leg after a tree fell on her home in Kampung Tandek, here, Thursday.
Monalisa Marigat, 17, was sleeping in her room when the tree fell on her leg from the roof of her house, at about 4am.

However, Monalisa’s mother, Jarey Amuti, 67, successfully removed the tree with the help of her family before the rescue team arrived.
Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohd Hasbi Hajat said four firefighters led by Senior Fire Officer II Dyiron Deris rushed to the scene after an emergency call at 7:21 am.

Hasbi said rescue team cleared the fallen tree branches using chain saws and then moved the if to ensure a safe situation.
Jarey said Monalisa was only slightly injured and there were no other casualties.
Jarey said Monalisa is the youngest of three siblings and is receiving her education at SMK Bandau in a Special Education Programme for Integration (PPKI).
