Young business leaders get insight on Sabah Oil and Gas Council
Wong and others after the engagement session.
Kota Kinabalu: The engagement session between the Sabah Young Business and Industry Leaders Network (Sybil) and the Sabah Oil and Gas Council (SOGC) on Tuesday has been fruitful.

Sybil President James Wong said the session was part of the collective’s effort to work towards the State Government’s economic agenda to increase representation of Sabah businesses in the oil and gas (O&G) industry.

“Sybil comprises young Sabahans who are established business owners running successful businesses, and we came here to rally behind and support what SOGC is doing together with TAS Institute and SMJ Energy to achieve the State’s economic agenda,” he said after the session at TAS Institute of Oil and Gas, here.

“We were very grateful for this opportunity as presented to us by SOGC Vice-President Jesselton Jason as well as Terry Biusing from SMJ Energy.

“We look forward to the continued collaboration between Sybil and SOGC.”

Wong disclosed that some of Sybil’s members are involved in the O&G field, but only a few.

“That is why this engagement session has been beneficial for SOGC, as they are looking for capable partners like us and Sybil who are looking for new opportunities to venture into.

“After the engagement session, we are very excited as there are so many different opportunities that we can get involved with because Sybil members are established business owners.

“It would be easy for us to partner with some of SOGC’s existing members to participate in some of the tenders.

“From today’s (Tuesday) meeting, we have established many partnerships, and we are looking forward to really making something happen for Sabah in the O&G industry,” he said.

He said Sybil members are involved in a very diverse range of industries, including medical, manufacturing, finance, hardware supplies and contractors.

“This connection with the O&G industry, contractors, designers, engineers and project managers, among others, will be able to support and participate…we did not know much about it before.

“This is why this engagement session is valuable, as we have many young industry leaders ready to partake in the O&G field.”

Sybil was formed to mobilise young Sabahan business and industry players to contribute to building a stronger Sabah Future Economy.

Their goals are to provide a platform for young leaders to share their innovative ideas and collaborate with the Government to turn those ideas into action.

Sybil also acts as a robust network and resource, promoting international connections, boosting investor confidence, supporting peer-to-peer learning and growth, and attracting talent back to Sabah.

Together, these efforts improve Sabah’s competitiveness in Southeast Asia, leading to a brighter future for all.

Also present during the engagement session were SOGC Vice-President Jesselton Jason and SMJ Energy Director of Oil and Gas Terry Biusing.
