Kota Kinabalu: “Linundus do Koubasanan” (The Beauty of Tradition), this year’s Petronas’ Kaamatan short film, conveys an essential message about traditional heritage, said Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan.

“I was very impressed after watching the short film, firstly because of its title ‘Linundus do Koubasanan’,” said Jeffrey, who is also Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Deputy President, after the short film’s exclusive preview, here, on Monday.

“The film is genuinely touching – you can feel the vibration of the culture, and our local actors are very professional and impressive.

“I believe it will convey an important message, which is the importance of preserving our traditions…our cultural heritage is crucial to practice.”

This year, to celebrate Kaamatan, Petronas presents “Linundus Do Koubasanan”, a film highlighting unity and tradition’s role in fostering community harmony.

Set in the picturesque Kampung Kiau, a village in the valleys of Mount Kinabalu, the film showcases the area’s unique landscape through the lenses of cinematography co-directors Bebbra Mailin and Rewan Ishak, bringing their signature touch to the depiction of the local culture in celebrating Kaamatan.

The film follows the story of Fridden, a young boy whose father has tasked him with helping with preparations for the Kaamatan festival.

Viewers are introduced to various aspects of the community’s way of life, from its intricate customs to its everyday challenges and triumphs.

The narrative delves deep into themes of cultural heritage, unity, and the timeless values of sacrifice and hard work.

It features the local Dusun dialect, practices, and traditions and shares the joy of celebrating Kaamatan.

Petronas Strategic Communications Senior General Manager Siti Azlina Abdul Latif said, “Linundus Do Koubasanan”, inspired by the spirit of Kaamatan, emphasises the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

“Through this film, we also want to highlight the crucial role of unity and tradition in maintaining harmony within the community,” she said.

“Linundus Do Koubasanan” can be viewed on Petronas’ official YouTube and Facebook channels from Monday (May 20).
