Kota Kinabalu: The family of Mengalum drowning victim Zhang Tian Long, 34, is awaiting official clearance before bringing Zhang’s ashes back to China.

Zhang, a Chinese tourist, was cremated at the Fook Lu Siew Crematorium, last Friday.

His parents, who are in their sixties, flew in from China on Thursday night for the funeral service.

Zhang’s mother broke down and wept uncontrollably on arrival at the funeral parlour.

He was their only child.

Zhang, an engineer, was holidaying with his wife Wang Cui Cui, 32, in Sabah when he drowned at the Snorkelling Point on May 11.

Political Secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew, Vivien Lee, who represented the latter, and Sabah Tourism Board (STB) Marketing Manager Aboni Loong paid their last respects, last Friday.
