Internet speed boost for Nadi in Pulau Bum Bum

SEMPORNA: The internet speed at the National Information Distribution Centre (Nadi) Pulau Bum Bum here will be increased to at least 100mbps, said Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the government is currently in the process of approving an increase in internet speed on Pulau Bum-Bum from 20mbps to a minimum of 100mbps.

“The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has informed that in Pulau Bum Bum, now, the internet speed is only 20mbps which is less than 30mbps.

“We have completed the Point Of Presence (PoP) project with high and cheap internet speed, so I think the internet facilities in Pulau Bum Bum will improve and this is the hope of the government,” Fahmi told reporters after inspecting the Pulau Bum Bum Nadi, here, May 18.

During the working visit, Fahmi also witnessed the Proof of Concept (POC) demonstration of “Sihat Xpress”, a collaboration between MCMC with Measat and “Mudah Healthcare” that started in Kampung Togop Darat, Ranau.

More than 3,000 have used Nadi services and the feedback was encouraging when recording more than 2,200 community participation in the organised exercises.

A total of 15 local entrepreneurs were successfully mentored and sales revenue increased after participating in Nadi entrepreneurship programme.

He said the Ministry of Communications, through MCMC, is adding 14 Nadi’s in Sabah, making the total number of such centres to 132 in the State.

The initiative is set in motion to revolutionise the delivery of healthcare, especially rural areas, so all levels of society and can benefit from the PMKS Madani Digital Grant programme.

Also present was the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.
