Kota Kinabalu: The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineers Section (YES) is inviting engineering graduates, particularly those in the public sector, to join its dynamic and vibrant community.

Its new Chairman, Ag Khairul Kamaludin, emphasised the organisation’s role as a valuable platform for young engineers to develop their characters, expand their professional networks, and actively contribute to various initiatives.

The AGM, which convened at the IEM (Sabah Branch) office in Damai Point Commercial Centre, witnessed an impressive turnout of over 50 participants, comprising young engineers from various disciplines, representing both the public and private sectors, as well as observing students from University Malaysia Sabah.

The event not only celebrated the achievements of the previous term but also marked a significant milestone as the Sabah branch was recently recognised with the IEM YES Outstanding Award 2023 at Natsum 2023 Perak, presented by the former President of IEM Malaysia, Datuk Prof Dr Norlida Buniyamin.

Emphasising the importance of continuous growth and development, Ag Khairul announced a restructuring of the committees, aimed at enhancing their productivity and ensuring a seamless transition to the new leadership.

The newly-appointed IEM-YES Sabah Branch Committee Members for the 2024/2025 term were introduced, comprising a diverse and talented group of individuals dedicated to advancing the interests of young engineers in the State.

Among the key positions filled were Jackson Wong Siaw Jye (Immediate Past Chairman), Ag Khairul Akmal Kamaludin (Chairman), Mohd Adhan Izmi Bn Roslan (Vice-Chairperson I), Lee Tze Yei (Vice-Chairperson II), Aimi Nazurah Jamain (Secretary) and Albert Chai (Treasurer).

The event also highlighted the upcoming Cafeo42, a prestigious engineering conference to be hosted in Sabah in October 2024, which is expected to attract more than 1,500 delegates from Asean countries, further underscoring the state’s growing reputation as a hub for engineering excellence.

The AGM attendees also had the opportunity to participate in an enjoyable lucky draw and engage in lively photo sessions, fostering a sense of camaraderie and enthusiasm among the young engineering community.

Those interested in joining the IEM-YES or seeking more information can visit the Young Engineers Section – Sabah Branch Facebook page or contact the IEM Sabah office at 088-259 122.
