Advice to students in troubled countries

BONGAWAN: Students, especially in troubled countries, are reminded to constantly update their information and location to the embassy.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Mohamad Alamin, advised students who have not yet registered their whereabouts, especially in the Middle East, to do so immediately.

“We have more than 2,000 students who are currently in Jordan.

“In addition to updating information, students who are in these countries are also advised to always follow instructions from local authorities and the Ministry of Higher Education.

“I am also aware that there is concern among parents, especially onthe crisis in the Middle East.

“However, I would like to assure parents not to worry because the situation is still under control.

“At this point, the government has not made a decision yet on whether there is a need to bring these students home or not because the situation is still under control,” he said.

Mohamad said this when met by the media at his Ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at the Bongawan Open Hall, Sunday.

The Kimanis MP assured that Wisma Putra and Ministry of Higher Education would always monitor the crisis in the Middle East. About 5,000 guests attended the ceremony which was held to strengthen friendship between the leaders and the people.

Also present were Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif who is also the Membakut Assemblyman, Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, Consulate General of Brunei Darussalam, Awang Hipni Matarsad, Consul Chinese General in Kota Kinabalu, Dr Huang Shi Fang and South Korean Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Joo Jung Cheol.
