Kota Kinabalu: Private water producer, Jetama Sdn Bhd, announced plans to develop a large-scale solar power plant at the Babagon water dam in Penampang, Sabah.
This project aims to establish the first floating solar energy project in Sabah, capable of generating 15 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

Jetama CEO, Ahmad Naim Uddang, said the implementation of the project is expected to commence in the near future, following the success of their first solar project in Labuan.
The Labuan solar power project, which reached its commercial operation date in February, has positioned Jetama as a sustainable energy producer in addition to its primary role in water production.
The upcoming floating solar project at the Babagon Dam aligns with Jetama’s mission to “Redefine Water and Energy.”
This venture will further solidify Jetama’s position as an innovative player in the renewable energy industry and contribute to the development plan of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ).

In addition to the renewable energy project, Jetama is also undertaking an innovation project to produce bricks from mud, which is a scheduled waste from water treatment plants.
By converting this waste into bricks, known as “Jetama Eco-Brick,” the company aims to address the waste management issue and save approximately RM65 million.
