RANAU: Some 56 music enthusiasts participated in a two-in-one programme, which is the Vocal and Song Judging Workshop for Sabahan Ethnic (Sugandoi) and International songs here, recently.

It was officiated by Ranau MP, Datuk Jonathan Yasin.

Workshop organiser, Sylviana Viana Saiki Aka Vie Jimmy, said the programme involves the correct and healthy vocal technique for singers, basic warm up, on stage preparation and how to choose the right song.

For the judging workshop, she said, the participants were taught to understand the criteria of the singing (vocal) competition, where the content of the workshop is more geared towards evaluating aspects of tempo, performance, schema and tempo rubric and performance.

Vie is one of the committee members (Development Bureau) in the Local Artists Association of Sabah (Pertisa) as well as the Secretary General for the Sabah Artist Recreation Club (Keras) and Head of the Welfare Bureau of the Kupi-Kupi FM 96.3 FM Club.

She said the goal of the workshop in the district is to provide a platform for artistes to gain knowledge in both topics.

“This is for those who are interested in increasing their knowledge in the singing (especially potential Sugandoi Kaamatan participants), as well as song judging,” she said.

The workshop featured Rhowell Rolland Pagi, a vocal and piano teacher who is also a vocal ensemble lecturer at UiTM, Sabah.

“Rhowell is also the founder and owner of Fortissimo Music Studio located in Tuaran.”

Jonathan welcomed the majority of workshop participants who came from all over Sabah.

He said the singing industry is important, especially for the talented Sabahans.

“The programme can increase the knowledge as well as sharpen the participants’ skill.

“Our hope is that the programme can have a positive impact on the participants,” he said.

“Who knows, this platform might produce a talented artiste who will one day win the Asian Got Talent (AGT) competition and win a handsome prize.

“This will further enhance the name of Malaysia, especially Sabah, in the future,” he said.
