Kota Kinabalu: The Borneo Expo 2024 will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here for three days from May 3, with the aim to make Sabah a global business events hub.

The premier post-pandemic business event, themed “Unlocking Sabah’s Opportunities”, is organised by Borneo Referral Group, the managing company of Business Network International (BNI) Sabah North.

To be participated by 10 industries, namely automotive, business services, building materials, construction and interior, events and weddings, finance, food and beverages, health and wellness, product and manufacturing and tourism, the expo hopes to attract 5,000 visitors and generate RM3 million in revenue.

Borneo Expo offers unparalleled opportunities for local and international collaboration, said Borneo Referral Group CEO and BNI Sabah North Region Area Development Director Brandon Chin in a press conference at SICC, Wednesday.

“Borneo Expo is a vision to make Sabah a business events hub where people around the world can come to collaborate, build new business ventures and help develop Sabah’s economy.

“It is a vision birthed in 2016 that one day we can organise expos or other business events to spur the economy of Sabah to a wider audience and to give business owners and entrepreneurs in Sabah the opportunity to scale up to the international arena,” he said.

According to him, the expo programmes are uniquely designed to cater for the business community with Borneo Talk, a K2B emphasis, community involvement and students from tertiary to local schools, as well as family events such as mini beauty pageants and workshops, etc.

He said the expo targets those who want to find new products or services, suppliers or manufacturers who want to venture into overseas markets and also those who want to learn from their K2B initiative where various speakers from local and overseas will share their knowledge on various topics which they have chosen for the public.

“Our Business Matchmaking programme on May 3 would be the best for businesses from all around the world as well as from different industries through different business associations to come together and connect for collaboration and exchange of new ideas.

“On May 4, the Young Entrepreneurs and Talent Networking programme would be most beneficial to the youths and also the business community to connect.

“At the same time, it would be a great opportunity to solve the issue of talent and unemployment in Sabah,” he said, adding the expo would be run by a team of young and dynamic small and medium entrepreneurs who are members of BNI with diverse business background and talents.

Chin also said some international brands such as BYD and Coway, as well as local brands such as TCT Trading, Onaki, HAG Store, Cocoa Kingdom, etc, have signed up as exhibitors.

He said the expo was endorsed by the federal Tourism, Art and Culture Ministry and supported by the State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry as well as government agencies such as Sabah Tourism Board, Industrial Development and Research Department (DIDR).

BNI is a business platform where small and medium enterprises can come to participate and do business professionally.
