Kota Kinabalu: The Be In Sabah – Gathering of the International Business Events Communities reflects a commitment to engage key stakeholders, foster growth and elevate Sabah’s profile in the global business events arena, said the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (Maceos) Sabah Chair Datuk Dr Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki.

This forum is not just about revenue but also about sustainable community development, she added.

“To give context, the Maceos Sabah Chapter has been actively building the business events community since 2022.

“By organising workshops, professional certifications, and networking that contribute not only to tourism but also to other industries such as public transportation, Small Medium Enterprises (SME) businesses, and local communities,” said Rosmawati, who is also the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) Chief Executive Officer at the launch of the two-day Be In Sabah Business Events Forum at SICC, Thursday.

The forum is jointly organised by the Maceos Sabah Chapter and SICC, with support from the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry and the Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, in strategic partnership with Maceos, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and Sabah Tourism Board (STB).

Rosmawati said Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) stands as more than just a venue, it is a gateway to opportunity, a stage upon which it can illuminate Sabah’s natural beauty, cultural richness and economic potential.

“With every event hosted within these walls, we have the privilege to showcase our diverse landscapes, vibrant cultures, and unparalleled hospitality to an international audience.

“We understand that hosting business events transcends mere logistical considerations. It is about creating immersive experiences that leave a lasting impression on attendees, fostering meaningful connections and driving tangible outcomes for both organisers and guests.”

She said the Be In Sabah forum holds the potential to draw in a diverse spectrum of global participants to Sabah and foster substantive contributions to economic growth.

Additionally, such events serve as catalysts for empowering local entrepreneurs and uplifting the community through various collaborative initiatives, she added.

“Moving forward, it is evident that the revitalisation and expansion of the business events sector hinge upon the cultivation of strategic alliances and cooperative endeavours.

“By effectively utilising the premier amenities and specialised expertise offered by our convention centre, we can facilitate the creation of impactful events.”

Rosmawati, who is also the organising chairperson of the Be In Sabah, said the first day of the forum has been nothing short of inspiring.

“We are thrilled to see industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders come together to exchange ideas, forge partnerships and chart the course for the future of business events, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

“From this forum, there is a vast scope of segments that can be addressed by embracing sustainability, harnessing technology, leveraging innovative business event concepts and exploring experiential marketing. Delegates can unlock the full potential of global business events to drive growth, foster connections and leave a lasting impact on them and communities alike,” she said.

Rosmawati said that the delegates will have the opportunity to gain valuable insight from renowned experts and thought leaders, gaining new perspectives that will shape their approach to business events.

“This forum is not just a passive learning experience; it is a transformative journey of discovery, enlightenment and empowerment. It also has a profound impact on the delegates’ professional development and career trajectories.

“We look forward to building on this momentum as we continue our journey tomorrow, with another day filled with engaging sessions, networking opportunities and unforgettable experiences.”
