5,000 celebrate Wong Loong’s family reunion

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is notable for its mixed marriages, distinct cultures and diverse faiths among its people.
The descendants of Wong Loong, who recently held their 8th Family Reunion at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association Hall in Penamapang, are an example of this diversity.
The family history dates back to the mid-1800s, when Wong Loong and his brother travelled from China to Labuan to work as contractual blacksmiths in coal mines.
When their contracts ended, Wong Loong decided to immerse himself in the local way of life by becoming an artisan blacksmith in Penampang.
