Kota Kinabalu: Kalabakan MP Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady recently met with Sabah Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMC) officials on issues hampering port operations.

It discussed cooperation between the State Government and Customs in ensuring a smooth entry of goods at the port.

“For now, only two dry bulk barges are available at Sabah Port and additions need to be done immediately,” he said.

This meeting also discussed efforts to rebrand the term “barter trade” in Tawau Port to be more relevant and commercial in keeping up with the times.

Andi said the Tawau Port has considerable potential in “barter trade” but needs to be mobilised in preparation for the opening of the Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara.
