Nearly 1,000 people joined the gathering outside Istana Negara, where a memorandum highlighting the people’s hardship was submitted to a palace official, on Tuesday.
Kuala Lumpur: Police have recorded the statement of Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, over a gathering at Istana Negara on Tuesday.
Before going into the Dang Wangi police station to give his statement, Badrul, the coordinator of Pembela Tanah Air (Peta), denied that the NGO organised the gathering.

He told reporters his organisation only supported and attended the gathering.
“Peta has been misunderstood. I’m not calling it defamation, but the Brickfields police chief (Amihizam Abdul Shukor) misunderstood and said Peta organised a gathering in front of the palace,” he said.
On Tuesday, representatives from four Islamic NGOs submitted a memorandum to Istana Negara, emphasising the people’s hardship because of the nation’s socio-economic situation.
The memorandum was handed to a palace representative.

Nearly 1,000 people joined the gathering, carrying placards reading “Daulat Tuanku” and “Selamatkan Malaysia”.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was also present.

Separately, Badrul said he will lodge a police report over the alleged misappropriation of funds involving a politician.
FMT is withholding the politician’s identity pending his comment.
