SANDAKAN: LDP Vice Chairman cum Sandakan Councillor, Chong Thien Ming welcomed the statement by State Tourism, Culture and Enviroment Minister, Datuk Christina Liew on the focus of 2.4 million tourist that will visit Sabah in 2024 and  of KKIA.

However, he wondered how many would visit Sandakan as not much is known of Sabah Tourism Berhad’s efforts to promote Sandakan.

Why is Sandakan being sideline in promotion,? questioned Chong.

As we have a lot to offer and has been upgrading tourism hot spot areas.

Even the Motac team (Malaysian Tourism) did a survey on Sandakan’s tourism, he said.

Sandakan has a lot of features to offer from foods to places of interest.

Our seafood products are popular, not to mention local foods and culture.

Batu Sapi park was recently restored and there are temples, churches and mosques both historical and unique.

Sandakan is also promoting its islands tour, including Selingan is also known as turtle island.

He also hoped Christina would negotiate for Sandakan to have direct flights from Penang, Johor and Sarawak, like Tawau.

Chong said industries are not picking up in Sandakan except for palm oil. It is high time Sandakan shift their focus to tourism.
