Mother who allegedly left child to die inside car pleads not guilty
The sessions court set bail at RM7,000 and ordered the accused to report monthly to a nearby police station.
PETALING JAYA: The mother of a two-year-old girl, who died last month after being left alone in a car for several hours, has pleaded not guilty at the sessions court here.

Nur Sari Fardiana Amran, 38, made the plea before judge Syahliza Warnoh, Berita Harian reported.

According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred between 8am and 3.15pm in front of a house in Ara Damansara on Nov 8.

Nur Sari Fardiana was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect, which carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM50,000, a maximum prison term of 20 years, or both if found guilty.

Following the accused’s plea, deputy public prosecutor Anis Hakimah Ibrahim proposed a bail of RM15,000 with one surety.

“Additional conditions include reporting to the nearby police station every month and not interfering with prosecution witnesses,” she said.

However, Nur Sari Fardiana’s lawyer, Hanif Hassan, requested the court to lower the bail to less than RM5,000, saying that the suggested amount was too high.

“The victim in this case is the accused’s own child. Since the incident, she has suffered trauma and this must be taken into account in determining the amount of bail,” he said.

“The accused’s business has suffered a decline in income. She has shown no flight risk and has given her full cooperation throughout the investigation.”

The judge then set bail at RM7,000 with one surety and additional conditions as proposed by the prosecution.

The case is scheduled for mention on Jan 30 next year.

On Nov 9, Petaling Jaya police chief Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said a two-year-old girl died after being left in a vehicle for eight hours.

Fakhruddin said initial investigations found that the victim’s mother had forgotten to drop off the child at the kindergarten when she briefly stopped to attend to her online business.

He said the mother returned home and only realised the child was in the car in an unconscious state in the afternoon.
