TAMBUNAN: The education system needs to be adapted to global needs in an atmosphere of globalisation where technology becomes important, said Deputy Chief Minister 1, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, here.

He said it is possible that one day science would replace human needs and only rely on computers.

“Now Brain Computer Interface (BCI) is seen as a technology that is a very important current need,” he said after officiating the Open Day program of the District Education Office (PPD) at the Pisompuruan Square, here, recently.

He said, this means, knowledge together with BCI is needed to produce answers and solutions or facilitate the making of policies and decisions through BCI.

According to him, education needs cooperation between teachers, students and parents, but the most important thing is the government that determines the education policy, financial funds for implementation and provides the necessary facilities.

Jeffrey said through 38 exhibition booths as a result of the collaboration of school students that showed intellectual enhancement and the application of science and technology where the students absorbed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in their learning and applied it practically in their exhibition.

Earlier in his speech while officiating the ceremony, Jeffrey, who is also Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry described the programme as a platform for the public, especially parents, to better understand the services and role of the PPD staff.

He said that filling the programme such as the exhibition of student and teacher results and information about the services of each relevant sector or unit in PPD could strengthen the relationship between PPD officials and the community in order to improve the progress of education, student welfare, the development of the country and the nation of Civilized Malaysia, especially in this district.

“I hope the Great Sabah Consensus and Great Tambunan Consensus among the education staff in this district can be realised through this kind of programme,” he said.

Jeffrey, who is also Tambunan Assemblyman, said that various challenges plague society today, especially global developments that require concern and consensus between the PPD and the community, especially the school community.

He is confident in all education officials and citizens at PPD to deal with it, in addition to carrying out the tasks entrusted in particular to convey information and policies of the Government and the Ministry of Education.

Also present at the ceremony were the District Education Officer, Haison Jahudin; District Officer, Sobitun Makajil; State and Federal government officers, teachers, students and parents.
