Kuala Lumpur: Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says no reports have been lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged “rewards” offered for the support of four Bersatu MPs for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“Until this morning, no reports were filed with MACC regarding the alleged existence of rewards or inducements resulting from the actions of several Perikatan Nasional MPs expressing support for Tambun (Anwar).

“‘Rewards’ come under MACC’s territory. I requested the agency to provide (details related to the allegation), and the situation is contrary to what is being said outside. Up to this moment, no reports have been made,” Saifuddin said during Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.

Previously, Onn Abu Bakar (PH-Batu Pahat) had asked Saifuddin to provide the number of police reports that have been made on the matter.

On Friday, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would lodge reports with the police and MACC after four of its MPs pledged their support to the government.

Muhyiddin said there was evidence that the four MPs were either threatened or offered development allocations in exchange for their support.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin also claimed that no police reports had been made, which Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) later disputed, saying Bersatu Youth had lodged one late last night.

In response, Saifuddin said the police had accepted the report, proving their professionalism.

He added that the support of the four Bersatu MPs could also be explained by their confidence in Anwar’s leadership.

“Their actions may be due to their confidence in the leadership of the prime minister, who has established political stability, worked hard to restore the economy, and ensured the welfare of the people, all wrapped up in the principles and practices of good governance,” Saifuddin said.
