Kota Kinabalu: Having created a satellite township in Papar with her Benoni commercial centre and Parklane City, Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen (pic) has now set her sights on Tuaran.

Susan, who clinched the Top Property Man of the Year award at the Sabah Housing Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) nite on Friday, said her Tuaran plans would see similar township development with residential housing and facilities such as a cinema, McDonalds, supermarkets and so on.

She assured that pricing would be affordable and it was important that the location is easy to access.

As for the award, she attributed it to her 40 years in the industry.

She started with her father’s company after completing her studies and was a past president of Shareda from 2009 until 2013.

“The award says ‘Top Property Man of the Year’ but they said a lady can also win it and I was chosen for this special award.

“All those 40 years which started as an interest in property development became a hobby to build quality homes which are also affordable.

“As a property developer, I feel happy when I see people living happily in their homes in the townships I develop,” Susan said, after receiving the award from Deputy Chief Minister II cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

Gunsalam represented Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor at the Shareda Nite 2023: The Art of Music – A night of Harmony – at Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort Friday night.

Susan, who is Managing Director of WSG Properties Sdn Bhd, also won Shareda’s Excellence Award 2023 (Gold) in Township Property Development Award @ Benoni.

Last year, she won the Best Developer for Township Development.

She believed people living in a housing area want the best surrounding environment and commercial units, as well as public facilities like hospitals, schools, bank and places to go for shopping, buying groceries, eating and watch movies in cinema and not far from their workplace.

“In building a township, one must first look into location, location and location that is strategic. Second is to have a well planned development and good surrounding like commercial units to provide for the people’s needs.

“The value of the property will appreciate as time goes by. My buyers say investing in my project gives them high returns even when they decide to sell in few years,” she said, adding her pledge is building quality homes and property that will not disappoint her customers.

Susan said her mother Datin Seri Chen Si Mui, who is also from Papar, was her source of inspiration to develop Benoni Commercial Centre and Parklane City.

“Papar is my mother’s hometown and when she said there was a cinema in the district during her time, I decided to have a cinema built at the property development because my mother enjoys the cinema.

“Whatever the people need, go and provide, and that is the best place for people to stay,” she said.

Susan said the upcoming cinema at Parklane City in Benoni would be officiated on Dec 10 and prior to the launching, there will be a two-week test run for people to watch movies for free.

The soft opening of McDonalds would be on Nov 7.

Terrace houses units at Parklane City are halfway complete and almost sold out while the condominiums would be launched end of this year or early next year.
