Filipino jailed for entering illegally

The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, and whipping, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old Filipino who entered the State without any document was jailed eight months.
Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus handed the sentence to Leleng Pingkal who admitted to the charge.

Leleng was arrested by the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) team at Simpang Mengayau waters in Kudat at 2.10pm on Sept 27.
Leleng had entered the Malaysian waters without any valid documents.
The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, and whipping, on conviction.
The court ordered Leleng to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After completing the jail sentence, Leleng was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for his biometric data to be recorded before deportation.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurun Nazifah Muhammad Iyen from the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency appeared for the prosecution while Leleng was not represented.
