PENAMPANG: MP Datuk Ewon Benedict hails the Penampang Development Plan 2024-2035, prepared by the Sabah Institute of Development Studies (IDS), as visionary and practical.

Ewon, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, said the plan was created based on the people’s aspirations and complemented by the planning of government agencies.

“I want this plan to represent the development vision of Penampang and at the same time, practical to be implemented.

“My responsibility as the elected people’s representative is to make this document as an input to the government’s development plan,” he said.

Ewon said this while attending a special briefing on the findings of the Penampang Development Plan 2024-2035 at the Wisma IDS, here, Friday.

Also present was the Chief Executive Officer of IDS, Professor Datuk Dr Ramzah Dambul.

Ewon said the Penampang development plan included a draft local plan, entrepreneurship development plan and education development plan, among others.

“Issues and challenges have also been identified to facilitate decision-making orders in the future,” he said.

“The Prime Minister agreed to visit Penampang on Nov 18 in line with the national-level Hawker and Small Traders Day (HPPK).

The highlight is the launching of the Penampang Development Plan.

“I will request a number of allocations from the Prime Minister to start implementation of development projects, especially the small and medium-scale projects starting next year,” he said.

“Whereas large-scale projects will go through related process starting with the District Development Action Committee (JTPD) meeting,” he said.

Ewon, who is also Kadamaian Assemblyman, said the same approach will be used to make the district Development Plan a success.

“For Kadamaian, I will invite the Deputy PM, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, to visit and I will request a number of allocations from him,” he said.

Ewon used his MP’s allowance to finance research and preparation for the development plan.

Similarly, he used his Assemblyman’s allocation for the 2020-2035 Kadamaian Development Plan which is currently being implemented by various government agencies.
