Muda out of Unity Government: Syed Saddiq
PETALING JAYA: Muar MP and Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has dropped out of the unity government following his public dissatisfaction with the outcome of deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s recent corruption trial.

Syed Saddiq made an official announcement on social media today, with Parliament due to reconvene tomorrow in a special sitting to debate a mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“The road will be long and lonely, but worth it because Malaysia will always come first,” he said.

On Tuesday, Muda secretary-general Amir Hadi told FMT that the party might consider exiting the unity government after Zahid was given a conditional discharge from his graft charges the previous day.

The party said in this respect, “the biggest red line (was) crossed”.

Leaders from unity government parties, such as Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi, responded by challenging Muda to quit the unity government if it was brave enough.

Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook called upon Muda to make a decision on their role in supporting the unity government. He also reminded Syed Saddiq that he was only able to retain the Muar seat in the last general election because Pakatan Harapan had agreed to step aside and support him.

A Muda division leader, who requested anonymity, had earlier told FMT of the party’s decision that it would not negotiate any further and would exit the ruling coalition.
