Konsaid had committed an offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code read with Section 326A of the same Code, which would be imprisoned for a term up to twice as long as the maximum term of these offences.
Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old unemployed man was jailed four years and  one stroke of the cane for hitting his mother’s head with a wood for not giving him RM5 to buy syabu.

Konsaid Yakob on Friday pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus to causing hurt to Becky Sasie, 48, at 2.50pm on May 26, at a house in the Telipok Settlement Scheme, near here.

Konsaid had committed an offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code read with Section 326A of the same Code, which would be imprisoned for a term up to twice as long as the maximum term of these offences.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Jessica Ombou Kakayun informed the court that prior to the incident, Konsaid, while high on drugs had asked RM5 from his mother to buy syabu but she only gave him RM3.

Konsaid, who was the victim’s eldest son, went berserk and took a beruti stick from the roof of the house and hit the victim’s head until it bleeds.

Konsaid also hit his youngest sibling when trying to stop him before Konsaid ran away out of fear after seeing blood on the floor.

Konsaid was arrested by police later following a report lodged by the mother.

Further police investigations revealed that Konsaid was a syabu addict and always in raged and beat his mother, said the prosecution.

Unrepresented, Konsaid requested a lenient sentence.

Jessica applied for a deterrent sentence as Konsaid was willing to commit such act to his mother for a mere RM5.

In another case, two paperless Filipinos were jailed four months and one stroke of the cane each after they admitted to staying in the State illegally.

Fisherman Rixan Jikirani and restaurant worker Pare Saleh were arrested for committing the offence at Kg Ranau in Kota Marudu on March 21.

The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, and whipping, on conviction.

Immigration prosecuting officers Aizah Minin and Gressia Yolanda Ismail Uvaraj prosecuted before High Court Deputy Registrar Dana Arabi Wazani, who sat as a Sessions Court Judge.
