NIBONG TEBAL: Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi will be arriving in Penang on Friday for a meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said Wang was eager to meet him, hinting that it could lead to further investments in Malaysia.

“I told him that I don’t have time to meet (in Kuala Lumpur). I told him that I will be in Penang (to campaign for the state elections) and he agreed to come to Penang,” he said at a campaign event in Tasek.

Meanwhile, Anwar said the outcome of the state elections may go in favour of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), given the coalitions’ power at the federal level.

He said previously, Perikatan Nasional (PN) criticised him saying, as prime minister, he would take away Muslims’ rights, but nine months on, nothing has changed.

“While there are good people out there, they fell for PN’s lies. PN feels we are tools of DAP fighting against Islam. Now it has been proven that we are not. I strongly believe that the sentiment will change,” he said.

Anwar said PN has already lost the right to claim that it was “clean”, with the allegations of corruption facing its leaders.

“If their prime ministerial candidate’s son-in-law can flee the country, how can (PN be clean)? If there is proof, he should be investigated and prosecuted,” he said referring to reports that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is looking for PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, Adlan Berhan, who immigration said left the country in May and has not returned.

“If he (Adlan ) feels he is not guilty, he must return and defend himself.”

Meanwhile, Anwar mocked PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for repeating the claim from many months ago that the unity government would fall when, in reality, he (Anwar) continues to lead the country.
