Saifuddin attacks PAS’ love-hate approach to DAP

BUKIT MERTAJAM: PAS has been urged to explain why it is demonising DAP, despite the fact that both parties had worked together for more than a decade previously.

Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said PAS had befriended DAP for 14 years, and during this time, DAP had backed the PAS-led state governments in Kedah and Perak in 2008.

“This is proof that there is merit in the ‘dalil’ (justification) relied on by PAS at the time to establish a working relationship with DAP,” he said at an election ceramah here last night.

“Yet, now are we told that Islam does not allow Muslims to befriend DAP.

“My questions to our friends in PAS are: What ‘dalil’ did you use for 14 years from 1999 until 2013 to befriend DAP? Why could you work together back then but not now?”

PAS and DAP were allies in the Barisan Alternatif and Pakatan Rakyat coalitions until PAS left PR in 2015.

Saifuddin, who was here to campaign for PH Seberang Jaya candidate Johari Kassim, called on Penang voters to support PH and BN, so that the unity coalition can lead Penang for five more years.

He also warned Penangites against doing things differently in the Aug 12 state elections by voting for Perikatan Nasional.

“This is not an experiment,” he said.
