3,000 Kolopis folks ‘no’ to raised taxes

PENAMPANG: Some 3,000 residents from seven villages in Kolopis want their area excised from the District Council’s operational area, claiming property valuations carried out recently will burden the underprivileged rural majority.
Community spokesperson Datuk Seri Dr Adalbert Kinson said it was unfair for the flood-prone and underdeveloped valley to be subjected to a subsequently higher door tax despite virtually no mitigation efforts and ill infrastructural maintenance.
He said the valuation notice was publicised by print media on June 12, six days after the objection period was over.
