Fake plate number: Driver fined

Kota Kinabalu: A lorry driver was fined RM7,000 or two months’ jail by the Traffic Court, Friday, for displaying a fake plate number on his vehicle.

Roslee Ramin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence as the driver of the semi-trailer lorry at 3.40pm on June 4 at the Segama flyover, Jalan Tun Abd Razak, here.

The charge framed under 108 (3)(f) of the Road Transport Act provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 or jail or both, on conviction.

Inspector Mohammad Khairul Nizam Mokhtar prosecuted.

Meanwhile, an Indonesian labourer was jailed two months and fined RM1,500 or four months’ jail for having stolen property.

Kamsaharuddin Syahraming, 33, pleaded guilty before Lovely to having a stolen ATM card and a stolen laptop belonging to  Kiling Muratcan.

Kamsaharuddin committed the offence at 6.20pm on May 2 at a junction to Taman Sri Rugading, Tuaran.

The court heard from the prosecution that the items were reported stolen from the complainant’s car at 1.15pm the same day.

Kamsaharuddin was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.

He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, an unemployed Filipino was charged with committing mischief by cutting a cable belonging to a telecommunication company.

Nul Basil, 20, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at 3.40am on June 24 at the TM manhole, Jalan Inanam.

He was charged under Section 431A of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie set Aug 7 for pre-trial case management and ordered the accused to be further remanded.

Inspectors Kelvan Elson Maik and Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit prosecuted.
