Assault: Two cops claim trial

Kota Kinabalu: Two policemen claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court, Friday, to two counts of assaulting two people in separate incidents.

Corporal Rizal Lee Abdullah, 34, and Sergeant Fredy Anak Francis, 32, who appeared before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun pleaded not guilty, respectively.

Rizal was alleged to have voluntarily caused hurt to Jumaidi Juna, 44, at 8.15pm, on Oct 6, 2022 at the Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) staff parking lot of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).

Fredy was accused of causing injury to Sarah Hafizah Lok, 22, at 11.50pm on Jan 23, in front of a bar at the Waterfront, here.

Each charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to a year or fine or both, on conviction.

Jessica set Aug 3 for case management on both cases.

Rizal and Fredy were offered bail at RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively in two sureties. They were also ordered to report themselves at the nearest police station once a week.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis prosecuted.

Meanwhile, an Indonesian man was charged with assaulting a woman with a stick.

Raimon Wadang, 31, was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to Kerol Cornelis  at 5am on Nov 27 at the Dewan Raya Bunga Patuma compound in Kepayan.

The charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or fine or whipping or with any two of the punishment, on conviction.

Inspector Albert Basiri in applying for a case management date proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties.

Unrepresented, Raimon applied for a lower bail by saying that he has a wife and a child.

Jessica fixed Aug 3 for case management and released the accused on a bail of RM1,500 in two sureties with a condition not to tamper with the prosecution’s witnesses.

In another case, a 23-year-old woman claimed trial to stealing from her workplace.

Nur Eizarina Fauzi was accused of stealing RM439.70 cash at a café in Universiti Malaysia Sabah here between 6.54pm and 7.30pm on June 20.

She was charged under Section 381 of the Penal Code.

Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence applied for a lower bail.

The court fixed Aug 3 for case management and offered Nur bail at RM1,500 in two sureties.
