Kota Kinabalu: A Filipino who used someone else’s MyKad to get treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 (QEH2) for shortness of breath was jailed 24 months, Thursday.

Unemployed Husin Jogo, 51, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having a MyKad (serial number 700815-12-5531) under the name of Jaffry Zain Jamilun at 1.30pm on May 29 at the lobby QEH2.

In meting out the sentence, Jessica held that it was a very serious case and could threaten national security as well as misuse the advantages of Malaysian citizens.

Husin was charged under Section 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulation 1990 (Amended 2007), which provides for a jail term of up to three years or a fine, on conviction.

Prosecuting officer Mohd Naser Mohd Nadzeri from the National Registration Department (NRD) informed the court that Husin was detained for having a dubious MyKad.

The court heard that the MyKad owner, Jaffry, had lodged a complaint after finding out from his wife’s friend who works at QEH2 that someone else had used his MyKad to get treatment.

Husin confessed to obtaining the MyKad from his friend to receive medical treatment at the hospital, said the prosecution.

A check on both Husin’s thumbprints found that it was not on the record NRD, said Naser. Unrepresented, Husin begged for a lenient sentence as he have children and a wife to take care of and only used the MyKad to get treatment at a cheaper price.

The court ordered Husin to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.

In another case, two men were jailed 10 months each for committing mischief by cutting 185 metres of cable worth RM15,000 belonging to a telecommunication company.

Md Azmin Ahmad, 39, and Md Aidel Yakub, 35, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to stealing the cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia at 4.35pm on June 9 at Jalan Kampung Gudon.

They were charged under Section 431A of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that the duo were caught red-handed by the complainant, who received information about cable theft in the said area, while committing the offence. Azmin and Aidel were then handed to the police.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit prosecuted.
