Sharjah Children Reading Fest attracts 122,000
A roaring closing ceremony for the Sharjah Children Reading Festival.
Sharjah UAE: The curtain closed on probably the world’s one and only “immersive edutainment” event in the UAE, dubbed the Sharjah Children Reading Festival (SCRF) 2023, Sunday night.Organisers hailed the 12-day event as a “resounding success,” underscoring the power of literature in shaping young minds.

The festival attracted a total of 122,000 visitors gathered for over 1,300 hours at the Sharjah Expo Centre, located just several kilometres from Dubai.

Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority, the festival reflects its vision to promote everything that contributes to forming the minds and personalities of knowledge-hungry and inquisitive children, according to a press release furnished to the Daily Express.

It embodies Sharjah’s objective of empowering future generations, honing their skills and unleashing their potentials.

For that purpose, the Sharjah Expo Centre was transformed into platform of creativity, arts and culture, clocking over the 1,300 hours of educational activities for the more than 122,000 visitors, the bulk of them young school children, in addition to youths, parents, students, artists and writers.

Themed “Train your Brain”, the SCRF enabled visitors of all ages to embark on a 12-day journey of discovery, exploring new worlds of imagination and learning. With a wide range of activities, panel discussions and workshops in arts, sports, technology, illustration and music, including hosting a full Florence Pop Orchestra from Italy, the festival offered a rich and diverse programme designed to inspire, entertain and educate. The vibrant event reflects the vision of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Supreme Council Member of the UAE and Ruler of the Emerite of Sharjah, and the directive of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed AlQasimi, who is Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

In a concrete and generous step taken to further SCRF’s drive to promote children’s literature, the thoughtful Ruler allocated Arab Emirates dirham AED 2.5 million earmarked for the purchasing of books from publishers participating in the festival to incentivise producers of books, thus cementing the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival’s commitment to fostering a love for reading and learning among the youth. The festival hosted 141 publishers from around the world and 457 guests from 66 countries who delivered an impressive 1,732 workshops and sessions showcasing the latest works in the children’s literary scene.
