SABAH has been able to record continuous growth through the implementation of various development programmes, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.He said the implementation of the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan, for example, is on the right track to bring Sabah and Sabahans forward through the main pillars of SMJ. According to him, the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda would benefit Sabah, especially people in rural areas, so that they do not miss out on enjoying development and progress.

“As a responsible government, we are always committed to ensuring that all planning, policies and programmes run smoothly,” he said in a special message in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 with Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) to be broadcasted on Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The Chief Minister is proud that Sabah is blessed with a diversity of cultures and beliefs, enabling us to live in peace and harmony as well as mutually respecting each other.

“The peace and harmony in our society have opened wide spaces for us to exploit our own capabilities and bring our family, community, state and country to a better level. With this effort we will eliminate all barriers that can separate us as Malaysians,” he stressed.

Hajiji said Aidilfitri is the day Muslims are waiting for to mark the end of the glorious month of Ramadan and the beginning of 1 Syawal, as a sign of victory in completing fasting throughout the month.

“In welcoming the arrival of Syawal full of barakah, let us reflect on the previous year and resolve to do better for future success. Now is also the time for us to strengthen our relationships with family members, relatives and close friends.

“I wish the best for all Malaysians in Sabah in conjunction with this glorious day. Let us take a moment to say a million thanks to the security forces who could not celebrate this Hari Raya Aidilfitri in order to serve the country.

“We also express our gratitude to all the frontliners, law enforcement officers and health workers who work tirelessly, serving and protecting our people and country. Let us also continue to remember those who are in need and show empathy towards their plight,” he said.

On behalf of the State Government and family, Hajiji wished Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin to all people in Sabah. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister who is also Sabah’s Coordinating Minister for Covid-19 Management, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, advised the public, especially those celebrating Hari Raya, to continue taking safe measures to avoid the spread of Covid.

He said they must remember that the state has not fully recovered from Covid-19.

“Although this year the people in Sabah have the opportunity to celebrate Aidilfitri with family and relatives freely without any restrictions, the state has not fully recovered from Covid-19. We are grateful that we can celebrate Hari Raya in peace because we understand and respect each other.

“Families in Sabah have never been separated by religious or ethnic differences but rather united by tolerance and high understanding between races and religions,” he said.

Dr Joachim said those returning to their hometowns must remember to drive carefully and be responsible so that everyone returns safe and sound to their respective homes.

He was speaking at the Bubur Lambuk Distribution Programme organised by Kundasang Division PBS in collaboration with the Kundasang Community Leaders Unit (UPPM) in his constituency.

Dr Joachim, who is also Kundasang Assemblyman, donated the Bubur Lambuk and participated in distributing them around the town which started at 4 pm.

In addition to bubur lambuk, dates were also distributed to nearby residents.

State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew said non-Muslim communities get to share the joy and happiness of the Hari Raya celebration without any hindrances. She said this is the hallmark of Sabah’s concept of Unity in Diversity where people co-exist in peace and harmony in an exemplary way. Liew, who is also Api-Api Assemblywoman, emphasised the need to cherish and perpetuate the aspect of mutual understanding, trust and respect as this is the cornerstone of a multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious Malaysian society. Sabah is a beautiful state inhabited by beautiful people, she added.

In her Hari Raya message, she said: “As we welcome a new and meaningful day in anticipation of promising tomorrows, we are grateful to The Almighty for yet another Hari Raya festive season.

“All of us hope to reap the best from this celebration and move on in life to better days ahead. May The Almighty guide us onto the right path in our personal or professional life.

Liew said Sabah under the stewardship of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is on an upward trajectory towards attaining economic recovery.

“Let us give our wholehearted support to the State Government’s efforts to uplift the socio-economic status of the rakyat, among other people-oriented initiatives,” she added.
