4 suspected drug pushers charged
In the second case, Mohd Bukharim Robert allegedly trafficked 233.1gm of cannabis at 2.30pm on April 11 in a house at Putatan.
Kota Kinabalu: Four people were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here Thursday with drug trafficking.

Self-employed Calvin Mah Meng Jie, 21, was accused of trafficking 414.95gm of cannabis at 1.15am on April 10, this year in the living room on the upper floor of a house at Taman Luyang Perdana, here.

In the second case, Mohd Bukharim Robert allegedly trafficked 233.1gm of cannabis at 2.30pm on April 11 in a house at Putatan.

In the third case, Indonesian maid Marsalina Suratpati Baguir, 32, and  government servant Roslie Matlan, 53, were jointly charged with trafficking 52.22gm of syabu at 6.10pm on April 8 at the Petronas gas station at Jalan Lintas, Kepayan.

No plea was recorded from them after the charges were read out to them, respectively.

They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.

The prosecution applied for another mention date while waiting for the chemist’s report.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles set May 23 for mention of Mah’s case and fixed June 6 for mention of Bukhari’s case.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie fixed June 19 for mention of Marsalina’s and Roslie’s case.

No bail was offered to them as the charges against them have no provision for such.

Inspectors Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit and Kelvan Elson Maik prosecuted.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man was charged at the Sessions Court with having 31.07gm of syabu.

Sean Thu Wei Lin, who appeared before Judge Elsie Primus, is accused of committing the offence at a shop in Country Height, Jalan Minintod, Penampang.

No plea was taken from Thu after the charge was read out to him pending the chemist’s report.

 The charge is framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39A(2)(r) of the same Act which provides for life imprisonment or not less than five years and whipping not less than 10 lashes, on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Tham Pou Jin offered no bail as the offence is unbailable.

Counsel Hairul V. Othman, representing Thu applied for a short date as according to the investigating officer, the chemist’s report might be ready in early May. Elsie set May 9 for mention and ordered Thu to be further remanded.
