TAWAU: The State Government needs to take strict action against airline companies regarding the issue of ticket prices that are excessively high during the festive season, said Muhammad Faisal Mohamad Mohidin.The Private Secretary to a Dewan Negara member said the State Government must consider the difficulties experienced by the B40 group and students who are desperate to return home for the festival, noting that the issue has been ongoing for a long time and is frequently discussed in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.ADVERTISEMENT
“When will this issue be resolved? When it’s time for them to return to their hometowns, they are charged a very unreasonable ticket price,” he said.
He said the long-standing issue continues to be a burden for approximately 400,000 Sabahans living throughout Peninsular Malaysia, particularly the B40 group.
Several media outlets have previously reported that domestic flight tickets in this country are more expensive a few days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Flights to Sabah in economy class cost RM1,123 one way from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu on flights scheduled at 9.15am and 10pm.

Meanwhile, flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching in Sarawak were RM1,025 and RM1,009.
According to Muhammad Faisal, the Sabah Government must deal with the issue decisively by devising the best possible mechanism to deliver sufficient benefits to the people.
