Kota Kinabalu: A total of RM120,000 collected by the Sabah Islamic Welfare Organisation (Perkis) from the Palestine Humanitarian Fund was handed over to Aman Palestin Berhad.

Perkis Acting President Abd Sani Maarif handed over the money to Aman Palestin Berhad Executive Officer Awang Suffian Awang Piut at a ceremony held here recently.

The ceremony officiated by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ruslan Muharram, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, also saw Perkis presenting aid donations to orphans and asnaf. Hajiji, in his speech read by Ruslan, welcomed the noble efforts of Perkis through the Palestine Humanitarian Fund, which was initiated by the late Perkis President Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin.

He urged the Perkis leadership to continue their commitment and promote the value of togetherness regardless of political, racial and religious beliefs to help Muslims not only in Sabah but also in other places.

“I welcome the concerns of all parties throughout the country who always help the Palestinian people. All these efforts and contributions are very meaningful and can help the Palestinian people who continue to be oppressed and suppressed.

“Therefore, Perkis needs to continue to organise beneficial programmes and achieve the objectives of establishing the organisation in accordance with the values of Madani Malaysia and Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ),” he said.

Awang Suffian said the Palestine Humanitarian Fund collection was of great benefit to the Palestinian people who were currently in dire need of humanitarian aid.

He said the funds would be channelled to the Aman Palestine branch in Gaza, which has its own office and is run entirely by Palestinians.

“We have a branch office in Gaza with managers and employees made up of Palestinians, who will organise all the donations to be delivered to the Palestinians there,” he said.

“More than RM150 million in aid from Malaysians has been channelled to Aman Palestin Berhad since 2006,” he added.
