Aloysius said that during the early stages of Sunduvan Sabah’s establishment, he was also summoned by the police to give statements after organising a series of gatherings advocating for the declassification of the Double Six Tragedy reports.
Kota Kinabalu: Sunduvan Sabah, a non-governmental group that has been vocally advocating for the declassification of the full report on the Double Six Tragedy, is happy with the Federal Cabinet’s decision to do so.“As someone who comes from Penampang, the Double Six Tragedy is very near and dear to our hearts. Everyone in Penampang knows who Datuk Peter Mojuntin is,” said its President, Aloysius Danim Siap, who is from Kg Pogunon in Penampang. He said he formed his non-governmental organisation in 2015 and vowed never to rest until the Australian Government releases the official full report on the June 6, 1976 tragedy that killed five Sabah cabinet ministers. He said that during the early stages of Sunduvan Sabah’s establishment, he was also summoned by the police to give statements after organising a series of gatherings advocating for the declassification of the Double Six Tragedy reports.

The Daily Express’ award winning team of journalists presents ‘Double Six: The Untold Stories’, a documentary on the plane crash in Sabah (East Malaysia) killing the newly-elected Chief Minister of Sabah Tun Mohd Fuad Stephens, four state ministers and six others on June 6th, 1976. After 46 years the findings of the crash also known to many as The Double Six Tragedy have not been disclosed. Note: This series unravels information not previously available to the public, but does not in any way attribute blame for the crash on any party.

“This were among the challenges we faced,” he said. In the incident, Tun Fuad Stephens, who had been sworn in as chief minister just 53 days earlier, died along with 10 others, including state ministers. The others included state ministers Salleh Sulong, Chong Thien Vun and Peter Mojuntin.

The full report of the GAF Nomad 9M-ATZ plane crash, according to Aloysius, was kept secret at the request of the Malaysian government.

“The people of Sabah have raised a number of questions and speculations concerning the Double Six tragedy, both favorable and negative. As a result, Sunduvan Sabah stepped up to advocate for the truth and clarity on the matter,” he said.

Every year, Sunduvan Sabah holds a wreath-laying ceremony at the Double Six Monument Park in Sembulan in commemoration of those who died.

He thanked SAPP President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee for his assistance to Sunduvan Sabah.

“Yong has also raised the Double Six motion in the State Assembly,” he said, and thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for announcing the decision.

“This is the beginning of a fresh episode of the Double Six Tragedy for Sunduvan Sabah. We eagerly await the full report,” he said.
