Double Six crash report: Attorney-General files appeal
The Attorney-General’s Chambers has filed an appeal against the High Court’s decision in ordering the investigation report by Malaysian authorities into the crash of the Nomad plane on June 6, 1976 that killed the then Sabah Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephens, four state ministers and six others, to be declassified and make public within three months.
Kota Kinabalu: The Attorney-General’s Chambers has filed an appeal against the High Court’s decision in ordering the investigation report by Malaysian authorities into the crash of the Nomad plane on June 6, 1976 that killed the then Sabah Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephens, four state ministers and six others, to be declassified and make public within three months.

The A-G’s Chambers acted for the three appellants, namely Chief Secretary of the Government of Malaysia, the Minister of Transport and the Government of Malaysia, which were dissatisfied with the decision of Judge Datuk Christopher Chin on March 8.

The appellants, who filed the appeal on March 10, appealed to the Court of Appeal against the entire judgement of allowing the judicial review filed by former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Mohd Salleh.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has filed an appeal against the High Court’s decision in ordering the investigation report by Malaysian authorities into the crash of the Nomad plane on June 6, 1976 that killed the then Sabah Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephens, four state ministers and six others, to be declassified and make public within three months.On March 8, Chin issued a mandamus order directing the Chief Secretary of the Government of Malaysia, the Minister of Transport and the Government of Malaysia to take the necessary steps to declassify and/or make public the investigation report by Malaysian authorities into the crash of Nomad Aircraft 9M-ATZ here by the expiry of three months i.e June 8, this year.

The June 6, 1976 crash involving an Australian-built Nomad 9M-ATZ aircraft at Kota Kinabalu killed 11  persons, namely the  then  Chief  Minister  of  Sabah Tun  Fuad  Stephens, Datuk  Peter Mojuntin  (Local  Government and  Housing  Minister),  Chong Thain Vun (Communications and Works Minister);

Darius  Binion  (Assistant to the Chief Minister), Wahid Peter Andu (Permanent Secretary to the Finance Ministry), Syed Hussein Wafa (Director of the Economic Planning Unit);

Johari (Tun Fuad’s son), Captain Gandhi Nathan (the pilot), Corporal Said Mohammad (Tun Fuad’s bodyguard) and Ishak Atan (Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s executive assistant).
