ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Netherlands is looking to invest in potential growth sectors in Iskandar Malaysia and in several areas in Johor, said Netherlands Ambassador to Malaysia Karin Mossenlechner. She said there was potential for cooperation between the Netherlands and Iskandar Malaysia besides the existing sectors of oil and gas, maritime, manufacturing and education.

"One of the areas that we can see is the development of a smart city here in Iskandar Malaysia.

Our country has a lot of experience in developing smart cities, for example, we have the smart city of Amsterdam.

So, we are looking forward to cooperate with Johor to learn from each other's experience," she told a press conference after witnessing the launch of the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) Johor Chapter here Wednesday.

Apart from the smart city, sustainable green growth was another potential investment to look at, particularly for the future generation, she said.

Mossenlechner said the opening of the third MDBC was timely as it would provide the right information to Dutch companies so they can venture into Johor and other neighbouring states.

"MDBC Johor is our third chapter in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

"The Johor Chapter will also serve our members based in Singapore and we hope to encourage more Dutch companies to come here. We also hope to attract local companies from here to the Netherlands," Mossenlechner added.

Currently, there are more than 200 Dutch companies operating in Malaysia with 20 of them in Johor. – Bernama
