Politicians judged by their actions, not talk

YEARS ago, a popular brand of beer had a catchy phrase that went like this – “When you make a great beer, you don’t have to shout about it.”

The print ad only featured the cap of the beer bottle.

Some of our politicians would be doing a great service to themselves by remembering that slogan.

With the impending 14 GE around the corner, it’s simply amazing and highly entertaining to see our local politicians proclaiming that they are the perfect choice as candidates either at State level or Parliamentary level.

They beat their chest in sheer delight to announce that they are ready and are more than qualified to be chosen as a candidate.

And if that wasn’t enough, they try to justify why they are ideally suited to be named as a candidate.

Some go to the extent of even boasting about what they have done during their term of service.

But here’s my point. In the first place, self praise is no praise. In the second place, actions speak louder than words.

Talk is cheap. It is better to just walk the talk. Because in the end, you are not judged by what you say but by what you do.

See, people don’t live by words alone as they can sometimes be nothing more than empty promises.

False hopes last but for a fleeting moment. What the Rakyat want and what they rightfully deserve, is the fulfillment of promises made.

In the end, it’s better to work silently and effectively. It is better to show results because the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Just do what you said you would do and do it well. The Rakyat will be your judge. Save your sales pitch about yourself because you are convincing nobody.

This is not a stage show. Rather, it is better that you show how effective you are in stages.

Rupert Augustin.
