Kota Kinabalu: A 48-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Friday with the murder of a man whose body was found floating in the waters off Kampung Lobong, Pulau Gaya, earlier this month.
Ali Daham, who was brought before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, was accused of murdering one Shazwan Salim, 32, at a water village house in Kampung Pondo, Pulau Gaya, at about 9am on May 4.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
However, no plea was recorded from Ali as the case comes under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ronny Anthony applied for a new mention date pending the post-mortem and chemist’s reports.
The Magistrate fixed July 14 for mention pending the report.
