Kota Kinabalu: Likas Assemblyman Tham Yun Fook has received complaints over the alleged operation of an unlicensed concrete manufacturing plant on government land near the Pasificity Likas condominium for the past several months.

The complaints were previously forwarded to City Hall (DBKK), but no official written response has been received so far. Complainants were reportedly informed verbally that no permit had been issued for the operation.

Following the lack of clear action from the local authorities, Tham visited the site Friday with officers from the N19 Likas constituency office.

Multiple complaints had been lodged with DBKK and the Lands and Surveys Department (JTU) regarding the plant’s operations, accompanied by supporting evidence.

However, he claimed the company continued operating as usual despite the complaints.

It was alleged that the plant caused air pollution and disturbance to nearby residents.

It was also learnt that a warning was issued by the Lands and Surveys Department dated July 4, 2022, which instructed the company to vacate the site as the land belonged to the government.

“We hope DBKK and the Lands and Surveys Department will coordinate and resolve this issue as soon as possible in the interest of the public, while ensuring that no party is allowed to act above the law,” said Warisan legal advisor Chan Ket Chuin.
