Mutiara students to pit their skills in Prague

Kota Kinabalu: The Mutiara Dancer group from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Mutiara, will be represent Malaysia at the 2024 Dance World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic from June 27-July 6. 

SK Mutiara Headmaster Junaidah Yassin, said the group is scheduled to depart from Sabah on June 23. 

“The Mutiara Dancer group secured the opportunity to represent Malaysia after impressing in the qualification selection last March with their ethnic-themed performance. 

“We are showcasing Sabah’s rich ethnic culture to the world, and these students from SK Mutiara will serve as ambassadors, promoting Sabah’s culture and enhancing its international recognition,” Juliah said after courtesy call on Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, at Seri Kinabalu Palace, Monday.

Four categories will be contested at the event: Male solo performing the Murut dance, female solo from the Dusun Lotud (Giring-Giring), trio category performing the Bajau Samah (Anak Samah) and groups also from the Bajau Samah (Pesorong Kami). 

A total of eight accompanying teachers and eight students will participate in the competition.

“We have also engaged a dedicated coach to train them, and they’ve been actively training since last year,” she said. 

Junaidah said the purpose of the courtesy visit was to announce the success of the Mutiara Dancers, who will be competing at the international level, and to seek support and advice from Tun Juhar.

She said Tun Juhar fully supported the school’s efforts and gave some advice as inspiration to the group.

Also present, the President of the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG), Rejanah Bahanda and Senior Curriculum Assistant, Masdi Ahmad Mus.
