Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said that starting this year, poverty alleviation programmes will be based on the 2022 Poverty Line Income (PLI) level which has increased from RM2,537 to RM2,742.

Additionally, he said, the Food Poverty Line Income has risen from RM1,179 to RM1,218.

“The State Government, through the Sabah Maju Jaya Secretariat (SSMJ), is taking proactive steps to refine the definition of hardcore poverty in the State by incorporating 13 additional indicators,” he said in response to a question by Sekong assemblyman Alias Sani, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here, Monday.

These indicators include homeownership, employment, land ownership, ability to pay for basic services, physical or mental disabilities, critical illnesses, access to transportation, livestock ownership, birth registration status, and education level.
