Opposition leaders afraid of the Sabah Maju Jaya slogan: Hajiji

BEAUFORT: Opposition leaders who make Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) their target of criticism and political capital are afraid of the slogan and thus, finding ways to discredit it.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the Government introduced the SMJ development plan in conjunction with a slogan on the State Emblem to invite the people to develop Sabah together.

However, he said the opposition did not like the slogan which was taken to raise the spirit of the people to support the Government’s efforts to bring about development in the State.

“We have implemented many programmes despite facing challenges since taking over the reins of the State Government.

“We organised it well until we were able to introduce the SMJ, but even that was attacked day and night although it was just a slogan on the State Emblem.

“Sarawak has its slogan, ‘Sarawak Maju Prosper’ (Sarawak Develop Prosper), as well as other states in the peninsula, all have slogans, but in Sabah the opposition is afraid of the SMJ slogan.

“This slogan (SMJ) is good to invite our people to progress and develop together, but they (the opposition) don’t want it, they just want political stories day and night,” Hajiji said at a breaking of fast ceremony organised by Klias Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) at Masjid Daerah Beaufort, here, Saturday.

Hajiji, who is also Gagasan Rakyat President, said SMJ is a good slogan to elevate the spirits of the people.

“But the opposition want the people to follow their wrong thoughts. So, we do not want to allow these people to return to rule the State,” he said.

He said despite facing constant challenges including being accused of being a failed government, the State Government remained focused on the welfare and efforts to improve the economy of the people and the State.

“So, during this holy month, let’s strengthen cooperation and unity between us. Let’s not listen or attend to trivial matters highlighted by the opponent.

“We admit that there is still a lot that needs to be done for the people, whether it’s water, electricity, etc., but we are committed to solving all these issues.

“We have a plan and In Sha ALLAH (God willing), we will be able to solve all these issues, soon. We have allocations to solve the problem of water treatment plants or water pipes inherited from the previous government,” Hajiji said.

Hajiji also announced an allocation of RM1 million for the repair of Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Lajim Ukin Mosque.

Also present were Gagasan Rakyat Vice President Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, Klias Gagasan Rakyat Divisional head Datuk Isnin Aliasanih and the party’s leaders.
