‘Tap foreign workers already in Sabah’ call. Instead of hiring new and worsening situation: NGO
“I agree and support the statement by State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe that illegals and stateless people be tapped to help overcome the labour shortage in the agriculture and industry,” Yap said.
KENINGAU: The Sabah Dairy Farmers Association said the State Government should tap the pool of illegal immigrants and stateless people already in Sabah in a controlled manner rather than employ foreign labour, which can be costly.

Its Chairman, Datuk Yap Yun Fook said this is more suitable at a time when efforts to repatriate them (illegals and their children) face numerous challenges.

“Repatriating illegals, for example, is not a total solution because their children born in Sabah are not recognised by their parents’ country of origin. Repatriating people identified as illegal immigrants, including families with children who do not have a nation, presents numerous challenges.
