Sabah Umno told to check facts first
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir and other state opposition leaders were told to do research first before making unfounded statements on the Sabah Maju Jaya’s (SMJ) Development Plan.

Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Information Chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (pic) said the Government had been disseminating information on SMJ through ministries and government agencies.

“Through sessions at the Sabah Legislative Assembly, the Government has also responded to inquiries on the status of government projects.

“If Suhaimi, the Member of Parliament for Libaran and also a Nominated Assemblyman, had taken the time to study the information provided through the mediums I have stated, he would not have issued such a statement.”

Suhaimi had said that the SMJ, launched in 2021, had failed due to issues such as basic amenities and persistent poverty.

“The Government has a responsibility to disseminate important information, and representatives like Suhaimi have a responsibility to seek information before making statements,” he said in a statement, Thursday.

He added that the easiest way to access information about SMJ was through the official website: https://smj.sabah.gov.my/

Nizam added the State Government was also working to reduce the hardcore poverty rate by the end of this year.

“We are providing business capital assistance, providing Sabah Maju Jaya Rumah Mesra and jobs for hardcore poor children.

“We identify and help hardcore poor groups through the e-Kasih system.

“In addition to eradicating poverty, the State Government also launched the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 in September last year.

“This is to help the Government transition from dependency on non-renewable energy sources to river networks in the State.

“Hydropower is the key to renewable energy aspirations in Sabah.”

As for water supply, he said the Government had increased the water supply capacity at the Telibong 1 and 2 water treatment plants from 130 million litres per day (MLD) to 180 MLD and could supply water to northern Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, KKIP and UMS.

The Government had also increased the water supply capacity at the Kogopon water treatment plant in Papar to 80 MLD for the Papar and Kimanis areas to the south of Kota Kinabalu, he said.

This project started five months ago and was expected to be completed within three years, he added.
