Mount Kinabalu guide is rescued by Mosar

RANAU: Mount Kinabalu search and rescue team (Mosar) responded quickly to rescue a mountain guide who suffered complications while scaling Mt Kinabalu, Monday.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, PPgB Ridwan Mohd Taib said the incident happened 600m near Panarlaban of the climbing trail, at 11.50am.

“We received a call through the Station Line and a team of 12 personnel led by Operation Officer, PBKII KUP Nickson June rushed to the scene.
Also involved were a Sabah Park ranger.
“When the team arrived, we found that there was a 35-year-old local man was suffering from extreme gastritis and could not continue the journey.
“The action of PBB Mosar and the mountain guide was to provide initial treatment and lift the victim down with a Robinson stretcher to the Timpohon Gate.

The victim was sent to the Kundasang health clinic by the EMRS team,” he said.
He added that the case on Monday was the second case for this month, and seventh for this year.

In January, three climbers suffered various injuries while climbing Mt Kinabalu while in February two similar cases were recorded.
He reiterated his advice to future climbers to take serious assessment of their health before climbing Mt Kinabalu.
He said there must be mental and physical preparation, and only bring along suitable and necessary items.
