Tuaran: The first day of the Sabah Rumpun Bajausama Cultural Festival 2024 went smoothly and attracted about 2,000 visitors.

Festival Executive Chairman, Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali, said the reception was very encouraging.

“On this night as well, we saw a very encouraging response and many visitors came to support the Bintang Soromas finals.

“I hope that everything will go well until the climax of the festival tomorrow (Feb 28),” he said after the Soromas Star Finals here on Sunday night.

According to Kassim, who is also the Secretary General of Sabah Bajausama Association, the festival could encourage the younger generation to continue to dignify the Bajausama mother tongue.

“The use of Bajausama’s native language needs to be emphasised and parents need to practise their children speaking in native language at home.

“Hopefully in the future Bajausama’s mother tongue will be taught to students at the school level,” he added.

He also hoped the younger generation could help promote Bajausama’s native language using technology and social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok.
