SEMPORNA: Marine police here, Saturday, foiled attempts of two boats to smuggle out petrol to the neighbouring country off Pulau Kalapuan.

The first arrest was made when the team intercepted and apprehended a speedboat heading towards the Philippine borders while patrolling under Ops Taring Gelora at about 5am.

Upon inspection of the boat, the team discovered 35 jerry cans containing 30 litres of petrol each. Also found were two jerry cans containing 30 litres of petrol mixed with 2T and two empty jerry cans.

Sabah MPF Region Four Commander, ACP Ahmad Ariffin, said the 34-year-old boat skipper as well as the seized boat and engines, estimated worth RM30,965, were taken to Semporna MPF jetty for further action.

Ahmad said the case would be referred to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDNKSH).

According to Ahmad, about 30 minutes after the first arrest, the team apprehended another boat heading towards the Philippines border.

“The patrol unit found 44 jerry cans containing 30 litres petrol each, two jerry cans containing petrol mixed with 2T and two empty jerry cans believed to be smuggled out to the neighboring country.

“The 33-year-old boat skipper and seized items, estimated worth RM31,640, were taken to Semporna MPF base for further action,” he said, adding that the case will also be referred to KPDNKSH.
